How To Choose The Best Heated Towel Rail

by Michael Eagleton

The addition of a heated towel rail is highly convenient and can improve the practicality of your bathroom. Apart from looking incredibly sleek and taking up very little space, these amazing inventions can also warm the bathroom up, turning it into the perfect retreat for a soak at the end of a long day. We don’t believe anyone would decline having one of these in their bathroom.

There are, however, a number of things to keep in mind when choosing a heated towel rail to ensure that you’ve made the best choice:

  • Heat Output
You need to consider the rail’s heat output, which is generally measured in kilowatts. If the output is increased hourly, the rail will be more effective and powerful. The main factor behind this is the size of the bathroom – the bigger the room, the more heat energy is required in order to warm it up.
  • Size
It almost goes without saying that a smaller rail best complements a smaller bathroom whilst a larger one will be perfect for a large bathroom. Another factor to consider is the number of people who use the space – if you have a large family but only one bathroom, a larger rail is recommended to ensure that enough towels can be accommodated.
  • Finish
It’s also important to consider whether the rail will match other elements used throughout the bathroom. A chrome finish, for example, is a good fit for modern and minimalistic spaces. White finishes, on the other hand, are perfect for traditionally styled spaces. A finish that will work with pretty much any style is stainless steel.
  • Style
These days, rails are available in all sorts of styles to ensure that they complement the look of your bathroom and home as a whole. There are more traditional designs for older, period-style homes and there are modern designs for more contemporary homes. Other features to consider include curved or straight rails and arched or straight tops.
  • Position
You also need to ensure that you’ve selected the right spot to install your rail. This will ultimately be dependent on two things – the available wall space and the IP rating of your chosen model. Bathrooms are divided into certain zones depending on how close they are to water sources (such as the bath or shower). Certain IP ratings are required for certain zones.
  • Power Source
Our rails are installed as a part of your hydronic heating system, which means they are heated via water travelling through pipes. But what does this mean for summer? Do you have to switch your heating system on in order to have warm, dry towels? No! Our models can also be fitted with an electric element for use during the summer.

It’s possible for all of us to have access to toasty warm towels on a cold winter’s morning – you just need to make sure that you’ve taken the time to carefully consider your heated towel rail options first. We hope that the information and tips shared above have given you a much better idea of what you’re looking for – get in touch with us at CambroHydronic Heating if you have any questions.
